Do I have to bleach my red brown hair and then re-dye it to get it to gold blonde?

My hair is dyed a light auburn brown color and I want to dye it a gold to dark blonde color. I wanna get the red tones out for good, so do I have to bleach all the color out and then re-dye it or do I just use a permanent dye in the color I want. And how much damage would it do to my hair if I did bleach and then re-dye it?

well im not sure if i am interpreting ur question correctly..but...if you want your hair to be a lighter color than it is now, you will have to bleach it no matter what..you cant just put a lighter color on top of it...it will not change.. because you cant lifet your color with a color..you need bleach to take yur hair to a lighter level..i say..go to a professional...asked to have your hair colored...tthey will tell u whats best...they will probably want to bleach it out a lil, then put a toner over your hair to even out the color and make it look nice and pretty..

just make sure u use good shampoo and conditoner..and maybe try some conditioning treatments

you absolutely have to bleach it then at least put a toner on it. If you put a color on there, it wouldnt do a thing. Color does not lift color, meaning if you put a color on your hair that is lighter than the color of your hair, it will not lighten it. Bleaching it and toning it SHOULD be ok as long as your hair is in good shape. If it is not I would suggest a few weeks of deep conditioning treatments first. Bleach is always going to damage your hair to an extent, if just depends on the condition of your hair as to how bad it will be. I wouldnt try to do it yourself though.

Yes, its called stripping the hair of its color. Then you add the toner. Don't do it yourself. You will miss spots or turn orange or something. Don't wash your hair or scratch your head for a day or two before getting it done because the bleach may burn your head a bit. Good Luck
