Does red hair dye stick like black hair dye?

Some time ago I dyed my hair reddish... it since faded out almost completely. I decided I wanted a more summery color, and figured going 2 shades later would take a little bit... but there is absolutely no change to my hair color.

I thought only black /dark hair dyes dominated like this?

I would love some advice and the next step I should take (at home, I cannot afford a stylist right now).

NO !

Red hair is dye is VERY difficult to get out. Red is one of the hardest hair colors to get out !

The next step you should take is bleach your hair. Your gonna have to try to strip the red out, so use to highest vol of bleach u can buy at a drug store (40 vol.)

Bleach ur hair till it goes as light as it will go. I think the longest time you can leave bleach on is 2 hours. Then it just won't lighten anymore. Then you're still gonna have to fill it probably because it's still gonna have a bit of orangey red tint to it...because of the red hair dye you had in it.

So whatever color u wanna get, make sure it has an ash tone in it, not a golden tone ! Ash cancles out red, golden tones will ADD to the red/brassiness of it.

The condition the hell outta that hair !!!!!!

Good luck :)

would you like to go to a lighter red color????

if so then go to a beauty supply store, buy some powder hair bleach ( or hair color remover, like effersol) ( 1 pack will do short hair, so figure out how much youll need...as the sales clerk) and 10vol. developer. mix it and put it on you head(dont scratch you scalp before you do this , please wear gloves ..it will kill your fingers especially around the nails.)put it on your hair try not to get it on your scalp but as close to it as possible. put it on and let it lighten you hair,,,,,rinse out,(lightly shampoo...and then you can dye you hair...if you want to go blonde,, youd have to get a 20/30 vol developer, and that RED COLOR eliminator...they selll it at sallys, andit will cancel out the reddish color. and then dye it ....thats how used to dye my hair... all this stuff is cheap too.

If your natural colour is very dark, dyeing it will just coat the existing colour. The only way to get a lift in your colour and one that will last is to use a colour which contains peroxide, which will lift some or all of your own colour out, depending on what you use and how you use it. If your hair is very dark, get a streaking kit which is designed for dark hair and put lots of little streaks in all over. It will lift!Watch as it lifts, keep checking it. When you like the shade, its time to wash it off. And keep the unused portion of the mixture in case you want to add more or go a little brighter after you've tried the first application. If its too light or brassy you can always sooth the colour down with a toner if you wish.

And red dyes always fade fast. You can prolong their life by using a shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair, but most colours fade after six to eight weeks anyway and with red this is most noticeable.

Go to a walgreens or walmart and get ColorOops and use it. Do not listen to anyone else on here. Stripping the color off your hair will only make it worse and it can fall out if you bleach it. ColorOops has no bleach or ammonia in it. Bleached hair is harder to put a darker color on.

That's exactly what happened to me too. generally my advice: after regular colour put on some semi-permanent washable colour from LONDA. this brand has lot of publicity where I live and so good indeed. my hair got red last year this time when my graduation party was on so really noone could recognize me, more colour and they wouldn't know me at all, it was Hell Red colourtype from Londa as said bf. so just wash out the colour which failed to have the expected effect. brush and put the solution on, if it's not liquid too much every brush will imerse the substance more in your hair and give it a stronger colour. take care. keep it on at least twenty minutes or even more just watch your skin redness too. hope you haven't got sensitive skin. Londa doesn't contain any peroxid or ammonia either, in the same line with L'Oreal, Wella, Schwarzkopf and offers cool brand-new look to your hair. Don't listen to Amber.

Red is the weakest color particle, if you dye your hair red you have to take EXTRA care of it so it won't fade out. The brown tint in the red dye is what is probably left in your hair, Try using hair dye remover and then re coloring it a natural color... you don't want to lighten, or bleach your hair anymore cause that would cause too much damage... so strip it, re dye it a natural color and wait at least 8 weeks until dying it your desired shade... remember to stay away from dark browns and blacks though, stick with something natural - like medium brown or dark blonde... these shades have the least amount of chemicals and damage to your hair, then wait it out until you can experiment again!
