I colored my hair red with permanent dye. Now that the roots show, should i use a demi color to cove

I have natural curls, usually a lighter brown with natural red highlights, when i dyed it still had a bit of blonde highlights left on the ends. Red looked great (it is close to my natural color as a teenager, which faded to brown as i hit my 20's).... The roots look terrible with the red dye. Should I dye to match my normal hair color so it can grow out? I dont like to do too much to my dry curls. Thanks for the help; i have never used a permanent dye before.

are you roots lighter or darker then the red you put on? If they are darker you will have to use a permanent color if not you may use a demi. Kind of hard to tell what you need from what you wrote sorry i can not give more help.
