Ok i have dark brown hair. I dye my hair yesteday, and I used Feria Ruby Rush. But the problem is that it only shows on the roots and not the whole hair. I left that thing for about 2 hours because it wouldnt work...
So whats the "right" way to dye my hair black to red??
I dye my hair red but...?
You can either bleach your hair blonde first (beware bleaching kills your hair) or you could just get a blonde hair dye to make it lighter first. That way when your dye it red it will show up more.

With dark hair, you need to strip the hair of the color before adding another color. It's best that you go to a salon.

You are only supposed to leave that stuff in for like 30-45 minutes. If you left it in for 2 straight hours and it still did not colour your hair, then maybe you should change brand names or something. You could also think about thinning out your hair with a special hair cut, maybe you have extremely THICK hair and it's difficult for the dye to penetrate your hair.
If you can't get it to work on your own then you need to spend the extra money to get a professional to do it and get it done properly.

I've used that dye before, and it worked great for me. I have medium brown hair. I don't think it's the dye--if your hair is dark, you may need to really subject it to a lot of chemicals to lighten it. be very careful--dead hair can be really hard to grow back.
leaving the dye in that long can be bad for it too. I'd go to a salon and have them check in case you already damaged it, and then figure out what to do from there.

When working with coloring kits like Feria, your roots will always look more distinguished than the rest of your hair. Once your hair dries, the rest of it should look different, just not as good as the roots. I think the problem is that the kits emphasize concentrating on your roots first and the ends later, so you end up using most of the liquid on your roots. I recommend buying 2 boxes: 1 to use as you would normally, and then another to just concentrate on the roots.
The only "right" way is to go to a salon, but seriously, who has the money to do that?

the color only showed on roots because color cannot lighten color. you will first have to remove the old color from the hair , then go back and color to the desired shade. this is a tricky process therefore you need a professional. they will have to remove the color to a certain level before coloring. they will also have to fill the hair with pigment to keep the red lasting and not looking odd . go to a professional and never leave color on your hair that long.

Try Herbal Essences Clairol.
Worked for me.
